Baby Shower :: For a “Little Deer”

My bestie recently had her 4th baby, a little girl!! Baby L arrived February 5 and of course we had to celebrate!! I wanted to make sure that Kathy’s mom could be here so we waited 3 weeks to celebrate this little blessing.  When deciding on a theme, deers kept coming to mind, L’s daddy is a hunter and the family loves outdoorsy fun, so that theme seemed to fit perfect.

I was thrilled when I found “Little Deer” printables on Etsy that would 100% compliment what I was going for!  I ordered online, downloaded the file and off to Staples I went to print my decorations!

To compliment the printed decor, I used chalkboards and tulips around the house for added touches.  My friend Britt baked and decorated the most perfect cupcakes in pink & green to match and we were ready to party!

Vintage Themed Baby Shower!

I love planning parties!

I so enjoy the planning of the details, putting together decorations, envisioning how it will all go together and then seeing it all come to completion as we set-up! It truly is a passion of mine.  If I had unlimited money and space I would definitely have the sweetest decoration collection and throw parties all the time, but for now, this makes me happy!

My bestfriend had her 2nd baby girl in April, I guessed it was going to be a girl.  So much so, I bought yarn for the baby blanket before she was born – pink yarn! I started planning in my head some ideas, and thanks to Pinterest it all came together.  Together with her sister, we came up with a perfect themed and decoration ideas for the shower.  Vintage!! I love everything vintage, and it was the perfect theme to celebrate baby M.

Now for the fun parts :: Decorations & Food!

First, the food.  We decided to keep it simple, lemonade & water to drink, and then veggies, fruit and some dainties (scones and muffins) to eat. It was perfect, not too heavy, easy to plan, and yummy to eat.  We served most things on glass or white dishes set on a beautiful table that had a simple pink table runner and doilies (the real ones, made by my grandma).

Now, for the decorations.  Bunting banners, chalkboards, doilies, birdcages and mason jars adorned the house transforming it into a lovely looking vintage scene.  We set up a pink and white polka-dot pinwheel at the door to welcome guest in, had fresh flowers all over, and even served our drinks in mason jars.  It was perfect.  Instead of doing games, we had a craft for everyone to participate in: Maisie’s ABC Book.  We asked each guest to fill out a page which contained a letter and then it will be put together as a book for her as a keepsake.

Mom and babe were well loved and celebrated and it was the perfect sunshiney day for a babyshower!

A Beautiful Life!

I have a beautiful life.

I am healthy. I am loved. I am happy.

Often, through the mundane routines that become ‘life’ we forget about the life we are living, we get lost in schedules, plans, e-mails and being everything to everyone, that we forget that our life is beautiful. My life is beautiful.

Recently, I had many moments of clarity to make me cherish the life I have, and to remind of the desire I have to live each moment, be present each day, and make the most of it, whatever ‘it’ is.

I am blessed.

5 years ago, Phil and I, for our 1st anniversary, decided to have a photo session with Karen McKinnon of McKinnon Photography.  Our hope was that she would capture us just the way we were.  We chose the location of a park that we spent a lot of time at while we were dating, and it was perfect.  We were in our element, it was playful, joyous, and fun.  It was us.  Who we were at 22, celebrating that we had started our life together and were celebrating our 1st anniversary, celebrating that we had been together for nearly 4 years, celebrating love! (If you want to see the blog post from that session click here)

Since then, many things have change, much has not, but one thing remained, my love of Phil, my love of our life.  Some things have gone better than planned, others haven’t gone as planned at all, but we are wandering through this journey of life together and growing as we do.

On May 12, Phil and I celebrate our 6th anniversary, to many its not much time at all, to some its such an accomplishment already, to us, its perfect.  It marks the day that we started our life together, it marks a time in our life where we made a commitment to each other to grow together, and be with each other through the good time and bad, it marks when we became a family.  It marks the best day of my life, marrying my best friend.

Last Sunday, we had Karen photograph us again.  It was different this time.  This time, Karen is more than just a photographer I admire, but she is a friend.  Over the past 5 years, she has become a wonderful friend.  Someone who I have shared many wonderful conversations, laughter and time with, even more, someone who I know will be in my life for many years to come.  When we were discussing our session, I didn’t know really what I wanted, but gave her creative choice and wanted any suggestions, and I am grateful I did.  After photographing my sisters wedding last fall including my family getting ready in my home, she thought that our home was a perfect place to start.  Our home is where we live our beautiful life, where we do nothing together and enjoy the simplicity of it.  Our home is where I have worked to include precious pieces that are representative of our families; photos of our grandparents, my Baba’s china, books from Phil’s childhood all adorn our shelves.  When we were done shooting at our house, we thought it would be neat to revisit the park we were photographed at 5 years ago, but this time was different. This time, it wasn’t just about being playful, but it was about celebrating our beautiful life.  We have changed.  We have grown.  We are different. But, one thing remains, we have a beautiful life.

Tonight, Karen posted our sneak peak…. its perfect.

Click here to see the video she made, its a combination of still and moving pictures, and tells a little of our story.

I love the song she chose to accompany it ~ A Beautiful Life by Justin James, a perfect choice.

This is my beautiful life….

Irish you were here!

Our last leg of the trip is upon us, we arrived in Belfast, Northern Ireland last night and leave for home on Sunday. Last night we were all beat from the travel day, so once we found our hotel we found a pub near by for dinner. It was relaxing and exactly what we needed. Today was going to be the start of our Irish adventure.

First stop: breakfast, we found a great place that had Irish breakfast, Katie even had beans with hers. It was a good start to our day and gave us the stamina we needed to start the day. Next we were off to the titanic museum. It was amazing. Titanic was built here in Belfast, so the museum takes you through the whole process of building it, follows the lives of some of the passengers and shares how it sunk, and shows the findings of titanic on the ocean floor. I have always enjoyed the history of titanic, but never experienced it like this. It was an incredible museum. Interesting, the shape and height on the museum is what titanic would have been like in the water – HUGE!

After the museum, we had lunch, wandered around the local shops, I found my last pandora charm for my trip and then it was time for a rest. (We love siestas)

This evening we headed out to Queens University, where Katie is studying. It’s a beautiful campus and it was great to see where she’s been this past year. After the tour, we had dinner at Maggie Mays, and then enjoyed a drink at Lawerys. A great ending to a great day. Tomorrow we are off to see the giants causeway, I’m very excited!

My Sisters Wedding: Flowers!

I LOVE fresh flowers, when we were 1st married, I received a gift from my friends grandma, a beautiful glass vase.  With it was a note which she said that you should have fresh flowers often as it is good for your heart & spirit! Over the past 5 years it isn’t unusual to find fresh flower arrangements throughout my house, sometimes just one, sometimes in every room!

For the wedding, Shannon hired, Tamara of Purely Flower.  She did an amazing job! When she dropped off the flowers on the wedding day, we were all blown away.  She incorporated several different flowers & textures and really captured the look Shannon wanted to achieve.

At the reception, we only had floral center pieces for decorations on the tables, simple and perfect!

Here is a picture of my bouquet and the head table center piece.
